The subject is maggots

What happens when you dig a tune, but you are opposed to the attitude and mentality it comes along with?

I loved Gil Scott Heron's work through the years, but never appreciated -among other stuff- his homophobic poem-song "The subject was faggots" that is being used in Leon Revol's tune right here -and to tell you the truth, it kind of always oppressed my love for his talent and music, cause I like to admire a person and an artist as a whole, not just for a part of his personality that is expressed as a certain kind of talent.

But this tune has that something that lets spring in and leaves you with an old skool touch. So leavin' the "faggot" thing aside, I'm keepin' the tune and pretend it talks about maggots going to a ball.

Summer repeat

After having slept for only about 4 hours, this is the ONLY thing that managed to keep me up and movin' all day today, after about 3 million repeats.

God how I love this early house feeling that stays alive in most mixes of this track (Pete Herbert's dub mix is about to ruin my repeat button as well).

Faze Action have been one of my favorite groups since the Kariba era, back in the late '90s. And they've been provin' me right for lovin' them, ever since.

Reminder

Do you know what I love about skilful edits?

That they make me re-love and re-play old favorites that I haven't listened in a long time and that at some point I've even gotten a little bored of, cause of my maniac excessive repetition.

Thank you Jay Todd for this beautiful edit and for bringing me back to my roots.

Shadow dancing across the floor

It looks like the Shadow Dancing Project continues, cause I just can't believe my ears with the "Across the floor" track that Deadly Sins and Giant Cuts brought to my speakers.

Andy Gibb's original tune is transformed into this frisky, contemporary sound and still can't leave all the creative producers out there alone -my guess is it never will. Not to mention the "Cloudy days" track, that gave a new, bouncy meaning to "Taste of bitter love" by Gladys Knight & the Pips.

Bring it on!

Melba reworked

69-year-old Melba must be feelin' quite thrilled and enthusiastic that in ending 2014, beginning 2015, young people still get inspired by her '70s-'80s songs and experiment on them, bringing them back to our ears and soul. This is one of the latest edits that I came accross by Moscow's Rare Cuts.

Love's comin' at ya, from the forgotten 1982, right back at ya, reworked and refreshed!

Thank you Melba for the great legacy of your music and your voice, thank you Paul Lawrence Jones III for writing this song and thank you Rare Cuts for bringing it back to my speakers.

Who wants cookies'n'cream?

A few minutes ago, I was logging into my soundcloud account and bam! It almost felt like this gem EP was sitting there waitin' for me.

Well, Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee ain't no news for this blog, so I was well prepared when I saw the name. Good work, nice tunes, perfect beat, great samples (I caught Trussel - I love it somewhere in there), and I already have 2 favorites (Boogie Box sampling Khemistry - I got a feeling and Givin' Ya Up). Can't ask for more. This just made my day, the last 10 minutes before it would end...

*Don't miss it. Out on November 25th.

Time for mirla

Genuinely happy for this release which was strongly anticipated (finally). And genuinely ecstatic for these utterly and completely top of the top-notch tunes. Nu disco at its best, man.

No more words for this one. Just hit play till it hurts. And start dancing. And make good use of your speakers’ capacity. And spread the word. And support this fine work here or a blue dinosaur will jump off your screen and start dancin’ on your lap.

Trading autumn

Autumn is making its way strongly into our lives the past days, nights are back to chill mode, everything is starting to shrink into cozy situations and the free spirit of summer is about to find a place to rest for a while. Well... not just yet!

Fresh EP from Kiu D with this killer tune, along with two tracks inspired by Teena Marie's "I need your lovin" and a "Summer" track.

I'd like to take autumn back after this. Or trade it with one last summer weekend.

Hauntin' tune

Past few days I’m desperately lookin’ for some free time to relax and feel like human again. This one helps a great deal.

First release (offered with a free download) by the Russian musician and producer Hot Sand (whom we've seen before) for Hator Records. Hot Sand made an inspired remix on Furns - Haunt me (which also does a good job on relaxin' my brain and boost my endorphins).

Startin' to smell like summer in here...

Outer space mix

I don't know what the hell is going on here, but this Diabolical Synthetic Fantasia is utterly, purely, entirely and completely brilliant! And I don't use exclamation marks that often.

Coming from the UK duo Psychemagik, this is a what-the-fuck-just-happened, totally spacey, psyched out mix, which I was on the verge of passing up the first few seconds, but gave me a couple of heart attacks on the row later on. In this soundcloud you'll find only sound clips of the tracks used in the mix and be prepared at around 6:20 onwards to lose your senses for about a minute.

Mornin' dubbin'

Although this would be a sound I would normally hit play to on a Friday night on my way out, for some reason it appears to be also perfect for a Tuesday morning. Especially the piano tune that bursts midways is pure relish.

Tel-Aviv-based Jean Claude Gavri knew what he was doing with this EP. Obviously Dimitri from Paris, François Kevorkian, Greg Wilson, Aeroplane and all those who support him, don't do it for no reason.

Repeat.

Brain explosion

Fingerman has been hosted in here before and will be hosted again (last time I believe was the Call the doctor post). If you're not familiar with this dude's work, waste no more time and browse through his soundcloud page till your pc -or your brain- explodes. Mine just did. With this one.

This has been released in September by Midnight Riot in the Volume 5 compilation and this month will be on Fingerman's EP titled Riot Gear along with 5 other top-notch tunes. Check them all out here and if you use headphones, let me wish you good luck. I might have lost a teeny-tiny percentage of my hearing just now.

Disco fever expanded

This week brings out the need for soothing stuff in me. Soothing, jazzy stuff. And it's nice to see that I can find what I'm looking for -can't fail in music.

New release from Natural Essence Media with the Expanded People's Disco Fever being contagious and spreading all around in several versions (find them all here). I picked the Slo Mo for today, but I'm really not sure about my favorite yet -I seem to smile the same way with almost all of them and I bet I can easily "dump" Fhernando for Manager & Afro tomorrow.

I'm not that cruel usually. Really.
